From Ballet Slippers to Barefoot Bliss: My Journey Through Movement

I have been a dancer for as long as I can remember. Ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, modern, hip hop, each style shaped me in a different way, teaching me discipline, creativity, and the pure joy of movement. Dance was my first language, my medicine, a way to express what words could not.

Then I found yoga, and everything shifted. Unlike dance, where movement was about external expression, yoga invited me inward. It was not about perfection but about presence, breath, and the way energy moves through the body. Yoga became a different kind of dance, one that unfolded from within.

When I became a yoga instructor, I could not help but bring my dancers’ soul into my practice and classes. My flows became fluid, intuitive, and deeply somatic. I felt the music in my breath, the rhythm in each transition. My yoga was never just about holding a pose; it was about feeling, sensing, and allowing energy to move freely.

My love of movement expanded in so many ways. I even taught Zumba for seven years, bringing the joy of Latin rhythms and high-energy dance to so many people. It was another way to connect through movement, blending fitness with the sheer exhilaration of dance.

This passion for moving my body led me to open a dance studio, a space where I could share the joy of dance with others. Later, I opened a yoga studio, offering a sanctuary for mindfulness, breath, and inner awareness. Each step of my journey was an unfolding, revealing new depths of connection between body, mind, and soul.

Then in 2012, I discovered a form of trance dance, and it changed everything. It was unlike anything I had experienced before. This was movement stripped of structure, an invitation to let go of choreography and surrender to something primal and free. Trance dance cracked me open, showing me a deeper way to embody rhythm, emotion, and spirit.

Now, my yoga practice has evolved again. It is slower, gentler yin and somatic yin. A dance with breath, a communion with my body in a way I have never known before. It is a listening, a softening, an honoring of the wisdom within.

And now, I am stepping into my next adventure, one that feels like the culmination of everything I have learned and lived. I am blessed to have a studio in my home, so at the magical age of 55 (this month of February), I can still share my love of connecting through movement and sisterhood.

Something new is coming in 2025, and it is from Germany! I am honored to be assisting Aernoudt Knecht in bringing TranceMovementâ„¢ to North America. This powerful practice is a fusion of movement, breath, and deep transformation, offering a profound way to reconnect with the wisdom of the body.

Something magical is on the horizon. Stay tuned.
